Steak with Chilli and Basil

  • 2 steak of your choice my was Rump
  • 1 onionsliced
  • 2-3 bird eyes chillidepending on how hot you like it
  • 1 red chillisliced
  • 2cloves garlicpeeled
  • 2tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1/5tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1pinch sugar
  • 2-3tbsp water
  • 1handfull Thai basilKraphao
  • 2 portobello mushroomsliced
  • 2 eggsoptional
  1. In a pestle and mortar crush together the garlic and bird eyes chilli but not too crush that it turn in to a paste. You can use a knife to do this if you do not have a pestle and mortar. Cook the steak to your liking and leave to rest.
  2. While the steak is resting, heat up the wok or frying pan to medium heat. Add in 1tbs vegetable oil then the chilli and garlic give it a quick stir then add in sliced mushroom, onion and all the sauces and sugar. Give it a good stir adding in the water one spoon at a time if you find that it is too dry (you want it to be saucy). Add in the red chilli and basil. Taste to your liking and it is done! This should take about 2 minutes to cook.
  3. Pour the sauce on top of the steak and top with the crispy fried egg and serve with jasmine rice or chips.
Recipe Notes

You can also add green beans or red pepper to the sauce or any other vegetable if you do not like mushroom.

Have the pan nice and hot
Have everything ready to hand.
Do not stew it! Keep the heat on high at all time it is all about fast cooking.
